Your Host
Brian Tester
Your host is semi-retired and a keen golfer, being a member of the internationally rated Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club. Brian is well travelled, having visited and toured the British Isles, Europe, Australia, Canada, and various Pacific Islands, staying at many B&B's of varying standards in the process. The Bed & Breakfast is a way of meeting people and giving himself an interest, and doing his best to give the guests an enjoyable stay.
Brian was educated at St Patrick's College Wellington, and started work as an apprentice motor mechanic at the Post Office Workshops in Wellington in the mid 1950's. He qualified at an early age as a result of excellent training, and eventually left to try his way in the world. Together with a senior partner he established a motor garage which developed into quite a large service station, spare parts business and motor repair shop in Lower Hutt. On selling out from that business in 1980 he became an insurance assessor and loss adjuster for New Zealand Insurance. He carried on in this very interesting occupation which included travelling to disaster areas in the Pacfic and in New Zealand, to assist with assessing hurricane and flood damage, for 21 years until retirement.
After retirement, Brian then started up his own small assessing business, working from home. With changes in the insurance industry, the assessing side has now gone into recess, giving more time for other things.
His interests over the years have included boat building as a hobby, boating and water skiing, rugby, barbershop singing, playing the piano, karate, and of course, golf. Incidentally for golfers wanting to try the course, being a member of Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club, Brian is able to introduce golfers and gain for them a discount on their green fees.
